South Pittsburg Community Center

Traveling to South Pittsburg, Tennessee was a unique opportunity to hear from locals about how their history has directly shaped their community as a whole. My task was to create a communal space that promals equality and unity among the residents of this small town. Located on a very historical street, one that had physically divided both the white and black communities, I wanted to symbolize the metaphorical passageway that comes from both sides of the crossing. A passageway that meets in an open space with many opportunities. The glass volume runs through the building, allowing for entry on either side. The other volumes come together to hug the glass structure for a seamless and translucent appearance, that mimics the people becoming one whole body.
